As mentioned before in the first blog post for Dialekt, after much struggle my group had a finished video, which can be viewed here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tahUkBM-gvU&feature=youtu.be

The process of the video began by researching content for our brand values and message which focused on the change of Hackney and the gentrification of the area. In particular, the artist wash which is a term we learnt that was coined to express the movement of artists being pushed out of the area.

So next came storyboarding. We explored different ideas that we could use to express our message such as a day in the life of a Hackney resident or artist and came up with a shot list that included interviews and shots of the interviewee and the area.

We went to go shoot but as mentioned before I did not participate so Sidney and Owen worked together to gather footage but couldn’t get as much as we had hoped for due to the lack of team present. They got interviews and candid clips as mentioned in our shot list.

Once we had the footage, we had to edit it but as mentioned previously, the editing was all done by Sidney and I was not able to give much input or feedback as he was in Hong Kong. He used the poem we wrote out together that can be read again here:

We got a guy to record the voice-over for us, but the pacing and tone wasn’t what we wanted so we had to have it rerecorded by another guy. After presenting our film for feedback for the first time, the feedback we got was that we needed to colour grade, get rid of black spaces and change the pacing of the film so that it included a climax in the middle.

We also presented our video to Craig from Visit Britain and he mentioned that although the video was good, from a commercial stand, it doesn’t provide a positive look on Hackney and that if we are trying to sell the area, we need to include more attractive aspects of Hackney.

Following this feedback, I decided I would make my own shorter video without Sidney as I felt that the message he wanted to portray of Hackney didn't resonate with me. I wanted to focus on the art scene and appreciate the artists (while they are still there) and give them recognition. So I decided I would make a video and brand off of this concept.
