We were given the task to gather three iconic images. The images would be considered iconic depending on its impact – whether it is impactful or has been impacted.

The first of my three images was an image of an album cover for the artist Primary. It uses the iconic Andy Warhol drawing style and crying woman character and combines it with Primary’s character which is famously known to be just be a cut out carboard box head, which is present in most of his album covers to anonymise Primary’s real identity. I thought this was iconic because anyone can look at Warhol’s crying woman and know that that’s Warhol, even me, and I don’t know a lot about art.

The second image I chose was an album cover for the artist IU who uses the story of Alice in Wonderland. IU’s hair is spread across the cover and used as a map for different landmarks in the Alice in Wonderland story such as the Chashire cat and the Red Queen. I considered this to be iconic as Alice In Wonderland is a well-known classic story and the use of iconic features from the movie being used on the album cover makes it easy for viewers to make that reference.

The third image I chose was not an album cover this time! It’s actually an Instagram post by the artist John Mayer. This was an iconic image to me because Mayer is wearing a hoodie with the word Deal written on it above a tick. The tick resembles the tick used by Nike to convey the phrase “Just Do It”. By using the word ‘Deal’, it suggested the shirt now reads the phrase “Deal with it”. I thought this was iconic as it was a play on Nike who are known by just their iconic tick.
