In our After Effects workshop with Abi, we learnt how to animate a car moving on a road for 5 seconds and then having our own go at animating something. Despite feeling unconfident in our previous workshops with Illustrator, I was killing it with After Effects. I found the task challenging but was actually able to accomplish animating something on my own and learnt how to position objects and use anchor points.

With my IKON image, in Illustator I had added stars and the text to my image and drew a new helmet made up of shapes instead of hand drawn as I was too out of my element trying to draw with my hand and found comfort in using and manipulating the shape tool to create a helmet. I feel as if the image looks a lot more cleaner and simplistic whereas before I was getting too overwhelmed as I felt like too much was going on in the image.

I wanted to animate the stars and his name in After Effects. I watched a YouTube tutorial and found that I could animate the stars using Particle World and selecting stars and playing around with the physics, position, radius, opacity etc. to make the stars twinkle and disappear then reappear like real stars in the sky.

For his name, I wanted the text to glow so I looked at another tutorial and added an outer glow to the object then played with the opacity on the timeline. After the workshop and the stars, this part was fairly easy for me to do and didn’t take much for it to come out the way I wanted.

I was going to include a shadow of a planet going across his head because he'd be looking up at it but it didn't come out how I imagined and it was stressing me so I decided to stop doing too much because I thought it would give me a better grade.
