We had a specialist named Abi Meats who runs a brand named Rude, come in to talk and help us through using Adobe Illustrator and After Effects to edit our IKON images. In our first workshop, we focused solely on drawing within Illustrator. I had never used the programme prior to the workshop and admittedly, don’t have much Adobe experience, so I found myself struggling. I wouldn’t rate my drawing skills too highly and I was sat next to students who were producing amazing work, so I was sort of stuck comparing my skills to theirs and it definitely made me insecure about my abilities. Abi had prepared a template for us to play around with of a cartoon man and taught us how to resize, relocate, recolour etc. parts of him as preparation for our own images. After having a go, I tried drawing my own face but felt that it turned out very childish and I also learned that drawing with trackpad is incredibly hard and that I should probably invest in a computer mouse or drawing tablet. I did learn a lot about using Illustrator though such as moving positions of items and creating shapes and filling items in with colours and the different tools, which all sounds very basic but to me was like I had been reborn.

When using my actual images, I wanted Jack to be in space so I cropped one of the images I took of him where he’s looking above and painted a blue background and scribbled in some stars and did my best to draw Earth. At the time I was not happy with the outcome of this try and looking back I don’t think it’s terrible but I wish I had made it look more presentable and added more space features such as more planets and made my stars look more like stars.

I had another go with another image and thought of drawing a astronaut helmet on him while he’s wearing his rugby uniform. So, I took the mid shot image of him and drew a helmet around his head. Looking at it now, I don’t hate it but I remember having trouble drawing with the trackpad and couldn’t figure out how to resize the helmet to make it look not as oversized.
