Leading up to our final pitch to Roberto and Derek which will be 5 minutes long, me and Junaid cleaned up our presentation and got some last feedback from Derek.
We fixed all the things Brian and Steve told us to such as rearranging slides. Derek helped us refine our insight from 'More people play golf than you think' to 'More celebs play golf than you think' and 'teens love celebrities, not golf'. Derek also said we need to fix our logo but we had gotten feedback from our friends and they all said it worked with our channel because it's shit but not too shit which was the aesthetic of our channel anyway so we kept it. We also added evidence of statistics to support our target audience decision of 13-18 year olds. We also dived in to the channel content more. We redid our colour palette and redid our banner to follow our new purple and blue gradient theme. Derek liked our mockups and told us we should dedicate a slide to one and then introduce the other four.
This was our final presentation which we pitched to Roberto and two of his colleagues and Derek. We also created a twitter page as well as fixing our instagram page. We also created more merch as well as a basic hoodie and mug, we had the idea of creating golf equipment merchandise that used our gradient colours so that the viewers of the videos watching could buy our merch to play golf themselves after watching their favourite celebrities play.
This is our final presentation: (read left to right). I also changed the presentation style from green to purple to match our colour palette and included font in to our identity slide.
We presented to bear at the Lab in Camden. Derek set this up for us to mimic a real life situation of going out to see the client and presenting to them there. I really appreciated and enjoyed this experience. The feedback we got was really positive. We managed to finish bang on 5 minutes! We were told, again, our visuals could do with some work. Roberto recommended us to look at Design for Device and take a look at Premiere League's colour palette because they use a lot of modern colours.
We did a good job on focusing on reinventing the sport. Presented really well together and he loved the insights and Roberto mentioned that 'teens love celebrities, not golf' was also a key insight from one of his projects a few years back when he had to re-brand England golf.
He likes that we added statistics because it showed we did our homework. He loved our challenge ideas and the fact that we found them through research again.
He was a bit taken aback by our identity page especially our font choice but as he listened to our presentation he realised we are actually reinventing the sport in a way he's never seen before. It's messy but relevant. He said on our logo, why did we use 3pm? We had it at 3pm because that's usually tea time but he said what if his tea time is at 9pm.
He liked our tagline on our banner but we should try and create hierarchy between 'tea time' and the tagline to create differentiation. He really liked that we are attempting to create our own language and we apparently had the most personality out of everyone that presented. He said it's really humorous but we are missing ideas like we could play with the names even further and possibly mash them up. He mentioned he made a poster for a DJ competition for MTV a while back and he used artist's names and mashed them up such as "Rolling Strokes".
Derek also pointed out that this was the best project I've done and a huge step up from my previous project which meant a lot to me because my last project was quite frankly shite.
Overall, I really surprisingly enjoyed this brief and working with Junaid because we got on really well and were able to communicate our ideas confidently to each other. I learnt a lot about pitching which is definitely a plus and am now looking forward to year 2!
